Brandão is a filmmaker, video artist, and communications professional working on climate, environmental, and social justice issues. As the founder of Indie Strategy Communications, he helps several clients in journalism, film distribution, and the nonprofit sector engage new audiences and achieve their communications goals. In 2024, he worked with Al Jazeera, The Marshall Project, and JMP Verdant Communications, before beginning an ongoing collaboration with Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) on a range of issues related to climate change. Previously, he was Director of Communications at The Intercept, and oversaw media strategy for Kino Lorber’s feature film releases, including the Oscar-nominated films 5 Broken Cameras, Fire at Sea, and Ajami. He also established Cinema Slate, a label focused on Latin American cinema, and distributed more than 15 independent films from Brazil and Argentina in the United States. Brandão has also taught workshops on film production and distribution and participated in several film festival panels and jury selection committees. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brandão began his communications studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and earned degrees from Ithaca College in Cinema and Photography (B.S.) and Art History (B.A.).
